Saving to Recall from the iPhone share sheet
iOS never admits a web app to the share sheet, so Recall ships a signed Apple Shortcut instead. It sits next to Mail and Messages in the share sheet of every app on the phone.
Install the signed 'Save to Recall' Apple Shortcut, paste your personal capture key when it asks, and Recall appears in the iPhone share sheet from then on. Share any reel, video, article or block of text to it and the save lands in your library in about a second, with AI understanding following in the background.
Step by step
- Sign in to Recall on the iPhone. Open recall.flocci.in in Safari and continue with Google. You need a signed-in session to mint a capture key.
- Copy your capture key. Open the install guide inside Recall and copy the rcl_ capture key it shows. The key is personal, scoped to capture only, and unknown keys are rejected outright rather than filed into a guest account.
- Install the signed Shortcut. Tap the 'Save to Recall' Shortcut link from the install guide. It is signed for anyone, so iOS installs it without developer-mode warnings.
- Paste the key when asked. The Shortcut's import question asks for your capture key once. It is stored inside the Shortcut on your device.
- Share anything to it. In Instagram, YouTube, Safari or Notes, tap Share and choose Save to Recall. The Shortcut posts the shared text and link to Recall's capture endpoint.
Questions about this method
Why is there no Recall option in the iOS share sheet without the Shortcut?
Because iOS does not allow a web app or PWA to register a share-sheet extension — that is an Apple platform restriction, not a Recall limitation. A signed Shortcut is the only way a web-first app can appear there, so that is what Recall ships.
Is the capture key the same as my password?
No. The capture key is a separate rcl_ token that can only create saves. It cannot read your library, cannot change your account, and it is honoured only when there is no session cookie present.
Does the iPhone app need to be installed?
No. The Shortcut posts directly to Recall's capture endpoint, so it works whether or not you have added Recall to your home screen.
